Quality of service :  There was a discrepancy between the vendors' builder's assessment of the roof condition and the surveyor's view. He rated it urgent, at level 3, and the reputable local builder who had monitored the roof for some years said it was in good condition. We had no reason to disbelieve the builder.
Professionalism :  Unfortunately some of the surveyor's unsolicited opinions caused offence to the vendors, who described him as rude.

Promptness of response :  I had decided not to bother with a survey as I had made a personal inspection of the property and didn't need a mortgage, however I was cold called by BD Surveyors and decided to go ahead with an expert opinion of the property.
Quality of service :  I never got to speak to the surveyor but he did send me a report, his comments summed up pretty-much what I saw on my viewing with the exception of his mention of "planning permission for the extension", I hadn't noticed an extension, so I checked with the estate agent, their opinion is that the property has never been extended.
Value for money :  Boilerplate disclaimers, little else that wasn't obvious to a casual observer!
Professionalism :  I wanted to speak to the surveyor so I called his office, he was out but a lady said he would call me back, he didn't but his report arrived in the post next day.

It was comforting to see that there were on one or two things that would need attention in the property and that otherwise it was worth the offer price. I was given advice on how to address some queries via my solicitor and a good overview of the potential cost involved of rectifying the problems and good news was that it wouldn't be too expensive.
Value for money :  Price was significantly below those given to me by several large firms.
