In the past keeping warm in the winter meant putting on another jumper and putting more wood on the fire. As technology has progressed other forms of heating have replaced burning wood: burning coal and burning gas. Electricity has all the appearances of being clean energy but we should be aware that making electricity often involves burning even more coal or gas. We now know that burning all these combustible materials generates carbon and CO2 and that is not good for the atmosphere. More and more people are becoming aware that we cannot go on like this and alternatives need to be found, in particular we need to start improving the eco design of our buildings and making their energy use more efficient .
Filling in the form above will give you a list of experts local to you who can supply some of the new technology items that will help you conserve energy whilst reducing your energy costs. You will be able to make direct contact with them and discuss your requirement in more detail. They in turn will be able to tell you about the options available and the likely costs and timescales. Any orders that you place would be made directly. There is no middle man.
There are many different forms of energy saving devices to consider and the following are some of the possibilities:
Solar cells (electric). This system works by absorbing energy from the sun to generating electricity which can then be consumed within the house or fed back into the national grid.
Solar panels (water). Energy is absorbed from the sun and used to heat water. These will still work as long as it is sunny even when it is cold outside.
Heat pump. This works like a fridge in reverse. You have pipes outside absorbing energy at a low temperature and you then release that energy inside your building at a higher temperature. The water tank is housed inside the building and is usually large so it can hold a lot of heat. Such systems are powered by a small electric pump which moves liquid through the pipes. The electric motor itself is placed inside the building to ensure that the small amount of additional heat coming directly from the motor is retained.
Heat exchanger. An air heat exchanger is a device that warms the cold air coming in by cooling down the warm air going out. The power is supplied by a small electric motor which is installed inside the building to ensure that the small amount of additional heat coming directly from the motor is retained.
Wind Generator. Provided your building is in a windy location, these will generate electricity on windy days. The electricity can be used inside the house or fed back into the national grid.
Insulation. This is a major factor in reducing energy bills. Ensuring your loft is well insulated, your windows are double glazed and having lined interior curtains that are kept closed at night will make a big difference to you energy bills.
The above is just an overview which we hope will create a few ideas for you. One last point to remember in the winter is to wear plenty of warm clothes as this really is the best way to conserve your own energy.
