Party Walls
The Party Wall etc Act 1996 provides a framework for the prevention and resolution of disputes in relation to party walls, boundary walls and excavations near neighbouring buildings. It applies when someone wishes to carry out work on or close to a boundary. The work may be the erection of a new structure, alterations to an existing structure or plans to carry out excavations within a specified distance of an adjoining owner's property.
There are many situations when a Party Wall Award is required, but some examples are cutting into a party wall for the installation of a beam, the digging of foundation excavations to facilitate an extension near to a neighbouring property or removing an adjoining chimney. In many of these situations notice may need to be served in accordance with the Act and a subsequent Award may be required.
Filling in the form above will instantly provide you with a list of Party Wall Surveyors who can help you. You will receive their full contact details along with details of their experience and qualifications to help you make a choice. It would be useful for you to phone some of them for an initial discussion in general terms about your requirements. It is wise , before appointing a supplier and placing an order, to ensure that your chosen supplier has the right level of experience, qualifications and insurance to provide the service you require.
A Boundary Survey is not the same as a Party Wall Award. A Boundary Survey is the process of carrying out a survey to define where a new boundary will go or to establish where an existing boundary lies.
